Understanding Self Deception’ commented that “Addiction is not the actual problem but rather a destructive and ineffective solution to the core issues” Hence cognitive restructuring and behaviour modification are crucial in any recovery program. . At Agragati Foundation, we emphasize on changing old thought patterns through cognitive behavioural therapy and counselling sessions. The clients are encouraged to freely share their past stories, their regrets, resentments and failed expectations so that they become more accepting of themselves and more capable of self-love. This is achieved through peer group sharing sessions and guided meditative exercises. They learn to have a positive attitude towards whatever appear in reality and deal with them in a friendly way. This skill is cultivated through sessions on mindfulness. Practice of healthy habits is done through a routine in life that is happy medium and hence not intimidating. Creative faculties of the clients are nurtured through various art based activities. Besides regular psychiatric assessment, medical check-up, balanced diet, psychological counselling and psycho-education sessions constitute a wholesome treatment program that is subject to modification to cater to the individual needs of the client. Our holistic approach helps our clients to find their inner peace so that they do not need drugs to ‘fix’ themselves.
